POSITION SUMMARY:
Responsible for all aspects of commercial mortgage loan underwriting for new loan originations and for the acquisition of performing and non-performing loan portfolios, with specific experience in construction loan underwriting.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Review and monitor construction budgets, feasibility studies, and engineering reports, underwrite sponsor’s business plans, construction expertise (by product type, project scope and market), and financial wherewithal (including reviewing global cash flows and balance sheet review), review the general contractor’s expertise (by product type, project scope and market), and financial wherewithal.
  • Obtain and perform in-depth due diligence on potentially more complex loans including but not limited to reviews of rent rolls, financial statements, tax returns, third party reports (appraisals, engineering and environmental), property business plans, independent market analysis, insurance policies/documents, property related contracts, leases, flood determinations, zoning, bank account analysis, aged receivables, personal financial statements, and other pertinent information to assess potential risks and property’s ability to generate sufficient operating income to pay debt service.
  • Complete thorough cash flow analysis and ratio analysis as well as commercial loan structuring and documentation for accuracy, completeness and adherence to approved underwriting and closing conditions. Prepare written documentation (Investment Committee Memo, ASR) of loan terms, conditions and narratives explaining the loan request, Sponsor’s background, loan risks and mitigating factors and ensuring conformity to BAM’s credit policies and procedures.
  • Provide senior management with ad hoc and/or regular reporting on the CRE market (market and property type trends) and be prepared to present findings during management meetings.
  • Participate in diligence assignments on special projects, i.e. b-piece purchases, CRT transactions, CMBX reviews, etc.
  • Work closely with various BAM departments including Real Estate Valuation, and CRE asset management teams ensuring compliance with BAM’s credit policies and procedures;
  • Perform site inspections
  • Prepare and review responses to B-piece buyer’s, rating agencies’ and other investors’ inquiries
  • Exercise exemplary corporate citizenship including strict adherence to compliance requirements and Bayview’s tenets
  • Other duties as needed or required.

SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES:
- Ability to work in a high paced dynamic environment
- Expert use of Excel
- Excellent verbal and written communication
- Preferred knowledge of Argus, Co-star, Reis and other market data sources

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Science, Technology, Engineering or Math field preferred
- Finance, business, or project coordination experience is required
- Prior rating agency, insurance company or financial institution
- 3 to 7 years of commercial underwriting experience, with at least 3 years of experience with construction loan underwriting.
