The position

The Controller will be responsible for ensuring that the accounting functions are consistent with the company’s goals and objectives through management and coordination of account reporting activities for the organization including income statement and balance sheet reports and control/monitoring functions of department and company budgets. The position involves supervision over compliance with local, state, and federal regulatory requirements and tax planning, compliance, and filings.

We are looking for an independent, self-starter, with strong communication and organizational skills. A person who has a positive attitude, is flexible, adaptable, and open to change. This person will thrive in a fast-paced and entrepreneurial environment. The ideal candidate will have the ability to multi-task several projects across multiple properties. Experience of 10+ years of progressive accounting and 5+ years in an accounting leadership role. Bachelor’s Degree, in accounting, finance, business, or similar degree. CPA preferred. Key Responsibilities:

• Planning, directing, and coordinating all accounting operational functions
• Managing the accumulation and consolidation of all financial data necessary for an accurate accounting of consolidated business results
• Coordinating and preparing internal and external financial statements
• Providing management with information vital to the decision-making process
• Supporting the budget process
• Assessing current accounting operations, offering recommendations for improvement, and implementing new processes
• Developing and monitoring business performance metrics
• Hiring, training, and retaining skilled accounting staff
• Establish and maintain internal control policies relating to accounting matters.
• Create and maintain procedures for monthly financial close process.
• Review monthly financial reporting for multiple properties.
• Ensure the accuracy of all financial transactions and reporting.
• Ensure timely quarterly distributions are issued.
• Review closing statements and prepare opening entries for new acquisitions.
• Coordinate with 3rd parties with respect to financial information included but not limited to lenders, tax preparers, etc.
• Support VP of Accounting with ad hoc requests and system financial controls
• Proficiency with Accounting Software Systems; RealPage or Yardi preferred.
