POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Tulane University School of Architecture seeks qualified non-tenure-track candidates in Real Estate Development at the rank of Lecturer or Professor of Practice. The anticipated starting date of the position can be no later than July 1, 2022.

This position will support our educational mission in the teaching of real estate development at both the graduate and undergraduate levels, while significantly expanding our existing career services and career advising. This position will serve as the primary liaison between Real Estate Development students and a wide range of employers regionally, nationally, and internationally.

We are seeking a faculty member with professional experience in any number of allied fields of the built environment, including real estate finance, development, law, urban planning, and design. Additionally, in partnership with the School’s Program Manager for Career Services and External Relations, the successful candidate will develop and lead a robust career services program focused on real estate development, including by organizing career-development workshops, proactively identifying internship and full-time opportunities, compiling industry reports and trends, collecting survey data and statistics for our graduates, and working closely with other campus partners.

The core teaching role will likely include two (2) sections of one required undergraduate course (SRED 2010, 2020, 2030, or 2040) plus the development and teaching of three (3) one-credit elective courses in Career Management. Administrative work will focus on career advising and employment resources for approximately 300 undergraduate students and 20 graduate students in Real Estate Development programs.

Tulane’s academic programs in real estate are aligned with the School’s traditional Architecture degrees (B.Arch, B.S.Arch, M.Arch, and M.S.Arch), Master of Preservation Studies (MPS) degree, as well as the A.B. Freeman School of Business graduate degrees (MBA, MS). Other programs and centers at Tulane University provide opportunities for interdisciplinary research and collaboration, including the ByWater Institute, the Murphy Institute, and the School of Public Health & Tropical Medicine.

Salary and academic rank will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

The search committee will commence its initial screening of applications in early February 2022. However, applications will be accepted and reviewed until the position is filled.

QUALIFICATIONS

Successful candidates for this position will have substantial professional experience as well as a terminal degree in their core discipline. Many of our graduates find success in non-profit and public sector settings, and the ideal candidate will embrace the interdisciplinary aspects of real estate development. Candidates with experience in sustainable real estate and/or climate change mitigation and adaptation in the built environment are strongly encouraged to apply.

The search committee also welcomes candidates with professional experience in real estate development, real estate investment, architecture and urban design, and urban and environment planning. Demonstrated professional experience in built projects, managed portfolios or demonstrated public sector successes will be positively viewed by the search committee.

Candidates for this position should be accomplished professionals able to teach core undergraduate and graduate courses, advise on academic research projects, and provide professional career advice nationally and internationally. The ideal applicant will also have a demonstrated record of excellence in teaching seminar and/or lecture courses.

Applicants should submit the following materials:

  1. Curriculum vitae or professional resume.
